As the Wall Street Journal reported on its front page at the end of February, third party mobile app SDKs collect data in unexpected ways and in ways that may be “personal data” or “personal information” under applicable law. The ePrivacy directive and, more recently, the CCPA, present real challenges to companies engaging in advertising, analytics, and other activities, with the specter of penalties and enforcement actions. This session will explore these challenges with hands-on examples and from a cross-border perspective. We will also discuss mitigations and work arounds and offer prognostications for what developments we can expect in the short and medium term. The session will be suitable for all levels.
