With many applications hosted on the web or in the cloud, service providers have access to a host of information that enable them to add value to the business or to user experience through data-driven insights and personalization. At the same time, privacy considerations need to be deftly navigated when collecting and using this data, especially for services offered globally. This session will explore some of those considerations and options for best addressing them on a global basis, such as first party vs. third party data collection; the use of telemetry, metadata, and cookies; determining whether the service is acting as a controller or processor; determining the lawful basis of processing, including for personalization and targeting; automated decision-making and bias; and communicating insights and recommendations to users.
