Children’s privacy obligations are expanding beyond services “directed to children.” New age-assurance and app-store laws may give apps and online services actual knowledge that children and teens use their platforms. This knowledge, combined with broader state privacy requirements and aggressive enforcement under unfair-practices laws, may require general-audience sites and services to implement protections for children and teens. This panel will examine the changing legal landscape, emerging enforcement risks, and practical steps for assessing applicability and building an effective compliance strategy.
