Session Time: Thur, May 7, 2026: 02:30 PM-03:30 PM
Since OpenAI’s release of ChatGPT in late 2022, policymakers at both the federal and state level have been debating how best to mitigate the perceived risks of AI technology without stifling innovation. In this session, we’ll unpack the contours of that debate by examining the evolution of AI laws and policy as well as the areas subject to ongoing or prospective enforcement. Discussion topics include:
- Executive orders and key federal policy statements, including America’s AI Action Plan and the National Policy Framework for Artificial Intelligence
- State AI laws, ranging from comprehensive legislation like the Colorado AI Act to more targeted legislation addressing, for example, chatbots and frontier models
- Recent enforcement actions and investigations by DOJ, SEC, FTC, and State Attorneys GeneralÂ
