The purpose limitation as set out in CPRA and the draft regulations published by the CPPA represents a significant step forward in US data protection law. The panel will discuss the balancing of the policy bases for establishing a purpose limitation on the processing of personal data, and the actual or perceived impact on innovation. The objectives of the discussion include to educate attendees on the underlying policy bases in order to better enable more effective assessments of initiatives and transactions that involve personal data, and to enhance the ability of privacy attorneys and professionals to advise internal company leadership and business stakeholders.
